for the 2nd goal today and does get his positioning wrong from time to time, but most of the time he's been
pretty decent - good on the ball, fast, never gets muscled, gets forward well. He has to improve his
defensive positioning for sure, but can't help thinking he gets a raw deal just because we have Gamboa
waiting in the wings and people want to see him play.
As much as I'd like to see Gamboa given a chance - I don't think Wisdom is anywhere near a liability.
I also think we're well stocked at full back with Wisdom, Gamboa, Pocognoli, Davidson, Baird and
Gardner all capable performers. I don't think Lescott did too bad either, really.
The Lescott thing is probably due to Pulis wanting us to have more presence in the air in both boxes. And to
be honest - we did look more threatening. Lescott should've scored today while Dawson was unlucky.
Maybe Pulis thinks it's worth sacrificing a full back getting forward from open play to have more chance
of scoring from a set play. We need to remember that two of Spurs goals came from dead balls - it wasn't
like they dominated as a result of Lescott playing full back. From open play, we easily created as much
as they did.
Just a bad day at the office I think.
Yep, have to agree with you mostly there Slick - certainly re Wisdom (although TBH I'd MUCH rather see Gamboa given a good run!).
However I think there was a real gulf in class today between the teams - not because of the LB choice necessarily, although I don't think it helped. If Poco was further forward he'd have offered more in the offensive side of the game and given us an extra bod in that area.
Fair play to Spurs - IMO they were very impressive with their movement and comfort throughout on the ball. We certainly could've had a couple of goals, and maybe 3-2 would've been a fairer reflection of the chances created, but IMO Spurs were definitely superior.
Fair play to us as well though - we didn't buckle after conceding 2 so early and close together, That was good to see, and I'm really confident that, with even 1 or 2 additions, we'll be plenty good enough to stay up
