I do not really understand your MG Rover comment or why you are blaming the Chinese. As I understood it, the fault clearly lay with John Towers, Peter Beale, Nick Stephenson and John Edwards. MG Rover was initially purchased by BMW, BMW then sold it to the Phoenix Consortium, who were an English company that over 5 years ran MG Rover into the ground. They even managed to unify Labour and the Tories with Kenneth Clarke criticising the 'Phoenix Four,' calling their actions "disgraceful". Lord (Peter) Mandelson said the Phoenix group had not shown an "ounce of humility" about the firm's demise. After MG was un-saveable, their assets were ordered to be sold off and a Chinese company did buy them for the sum of their parts.
The 1,000,000 + Hyghurs, all I can say to that is their treatment is a national outrage, but that is the Government actions, not the businesses. I think self enterprise has never been that big under Chinese communism.
The reason the Government stopped the 5G bid was the government masters in Washington told them to, they viewed the same evidence as Congress and decided to let the deal go ahead, it was only when the USA started jumping up and down the government took the actions they did. From my perspective I do agree with the decision to remove the 'sensitive side' of 5G from the contract. But there again I also objected to the Maggie Thatcher government selling off nationalised industries at rip off prices, to people who they knew would buy them on day 1 and sell them on day 2, knowing most would be brought up by foreign interests, I am still waiting for the check for my percentage of the sale. I think we can agree though that Lai is a dodgy piece of something nasty and the quicker he is gone from our club the better.
I agree with you on 99% of what you say .
I can give you a few personal examples of Chinese business I have been involved with. The transfer of automated car battery manufacturing to China and where the UK was a strictly controlled environment because of the lead dust involved. With every employee checked for any lead poisoning every few months. In China it was men with shovels and wheel barrows - when they were told the guys doing it would die within a few months they said quote "don't worry we have plenty of spare men waited for a job" and they were serious.
Another they complained a piece of equipment was faulty and the extraction was not working. It worked fine initially. Upon inspection the motor and fan was completely missing. Asking if it had gone for repair. "No Sir we sold it" we didn't need it we gave some paper masks out.
Women have to walk behind men and have little or no rights.
If you asked anyone from HK what they thought of Chinese business I don't think they would have anything but hatred for them.
Lai is cut from the same cloth IMO. Making some of our own staff redundant while arranging his £4.95 million loan is morally wrong. 1% interest is some kind of joke. How is he going to get the money back out of China as he couldn't do it to pay off is inherited loan. He is just a CROOK. He is only interested in filling his pockets. I will wait for the day when the ground is used as collateral for another loan that will never be paid. As will the training and Academy facilities.
We are in the hands of an asset stripper and the sooner we understand that the better.
I will be a baggies supporter no matter what, but I am saddened about what the future holds.
