Sterile decision making using video replays not only takes out the crowd excitement but it can also take away some of those motivating incidents for the team as well!!  Over here they introduced video replay in baseball for more than the usual stuff and one of the things the managers have said that it takes away their need or ability to get in an umpires face over a dodgy call, which usually leads to their ejection, but they used that to fight for the team and motivate the players.  Not the same in football, but perceived bad calls galvanize the crowd and the players.

I have been at cricket & tennis when a challenge has been made & it lifts crowd excitement to the highest level particularly at key points in the game.
