PNE Team News
Andrew Hughes will be assessed ahead of the weekend, with the defender having been forced off in Monday's game with a toe injury.
Ched Evans is still struggling with injury and is unlikely to feature, whereas this game is likely to come too soon for Tom Barkhuizen, who played his first 45 minutes since January in the Central League earlier this week.
Ryan Lowe confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Izzy Brown and Josh Murphy are no longer training with the club and will therefore not feature in the remainder of the season.
The Opposition
After the highs of achieving a Play-Off place last season, Barnsley have endured a difficult campaign this time around, with the Tykes having been relegated from the Championship.
Starting the season with Markus Schopp in charge, Poya Asbaghi took over with the side struggling, but he didn’t make the desired impact and as a result the South Yorkshire side will spend next season in League One.
Now with Martin Devaney in caretaker charge, they will be looking to end the campaign on a high, with nothing to lose going into their final two matches.
Key Stats
Barnsley have scored fewer goals than any other Championship team this term, having netted just 32 in their 44 matches.
North End midfielder Daniel Johnson has scored four goals in his last four appearances against the Tykes.
Brad Potts, who played 67 times for Barnsley, has been on the winning side in all four of his appearances against his former employers since his departure to Deepdale.
Our Last Meeting
Ryan Lowe’s first game as PNE manager ended in victory against Barnsley, thanks to goals from Alan Browne and Daniel Johnson.
Man In The Middle
David Webb will referee his fourth PNE fixture of the season and the 21st North End game of his career.
PNE have enjoyed their games with Webb in charge so far this season, having won away at AFC Bournemouth, earned a late point against Sheffield United and most recently beating Lancashire neighbours Blackpool with Webb as referee.
So far this season, Webb has taken charge of 34 matches, showing 115 yellow cards and four reds.
MACS VIEW
The last road trip of the season, against a side who have already been relegated, a chance to improve our recent away record of not scoring in the last three. A big day out for the travelling faithful as it's the traditional Gentry Day and a massive congratulations to South Yorkshire police who have forced the game to a 12.30 kick. A few weeks ago they allowed 4000 Middlesbrough fans in for a 3 pm kick off, apparently all the pubs are not taking away fans either, somehow won't stop the lads.
Be nice to win and put in a performance like we didn't on Monday night. Cut and paste match report as it was supposed o be cricket but things have not worked out correctly so it's red button for me
