Not a single set of false teeth have bitten into me kwiz. I'm thinking we're falling out with kwizes, to be fair I've not dived into enough recently mi'sen.
So, just so you can regale your kids/grandkids while they stuff the last of their Kinder Surprises into their chocolate smiley faces before puking round the back of the sofa this evening.
These questions are all based on facts on packaging company GWPGroup's website. They make all that cardboardy stuff (and formally all the plastic stuff) that Easter Eggs are packaged in. If they nicked this info from Wiki, blame them not me.
1. Approx how many chocolate eggs are eaten each year in the UK at Easter? (nearest million, not including Creme Eggs) 90million
2. Approx how many Creme Eggs does the Cadbury's Bourneville factory produce each year? 500 million, 305 million are exported.
3. Based on weight per capita, where is the UK in the World Chocolate Eating League? 4th equal with some one else that they don't mention behind Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
4. Which country is the world’s largest producer of cocoa? The Ivory Coast in West Africa. The organisation “Make Chocolate Fair” believes there could be up to 2 million children working on cocoa plantations in both Ghana and Ivory Coast. Around a quarter of these are likely to be in exploitative conditions.
5. How much does the UK spend on Easter Egg chocolate each year? £299 million
6. How many Easter eggs do our kids eat on average? 8 each at a rate of 2/day (though some /most UK parents lie about how much of their kids eggs they also eat).
7. Which company developed the first solid chocolate bar, going on sale in 1847? JS Fry & Sons
8. Thorntons made the world’s largest chocolate bar to celebrate their 100th birthday, what was it's weight? (approx). It was around 6 tonnes in weight – the equivalent to 75,000 of their standard size bars.
9. The first story of a rabbit (later named the “Easter Bunny”) hiding eggs in a garden was published in which year? The first story of a rabbit (later named the “Easter Bunny”) hiding eggs in a garden was published in 1680, whilst Dutch settlers are believed to have taken the tradition the United States in the 1700s.
10. What year was milk chocolate developed? Hint, it was the same year Cadbury started making chocolate eggs. Milk chocolate as we know today was not available until after 1875 – with Swiss chocolatier Daniel Peter developing the recipe.
