Joe uprooted - steps down as test captain

The England Test captaincy has often been seen as a poisoned chalice, but not as far as Root is concerned. His personal form has been excellent during that time and surely must be retained as the top batsman.

We never know what's going on in the background, but we do know that many of the better players around have never kept up any good form on a consistent basis. Is it Root to blame or is it something else in the camp? Is it just the fact that England are not good enough?
