With kick-off looming I guess I should cough up the Kwik Kwiz answers (as I see them).
1. What year did Fulham eventually move into (not purchase) Craven Cottage and start to play there, having roamed around a large number of assorted playing fields in the neighbourhood prior to this? In 1896, after two years of development, the Club finally took residence in their new home – one that would not only match our ambitions but also offer a more secure foundation to move forward.
2. Why did Megabus have to drop the £1 advert (above) on the back of their buses? Hardly anyone could buy one. The advertising regulator got on their case. The rest as the say was increased fares all round.
3. Who was born in Fulham, played for Fulham, managed Fulham for 4 years, had legs that couldn't stop a sheep or a pig down a ginnel and is generally rated as our worst manager ever (give or take, even though he probably wasn't sober most of the time)? Malcolm MacDonald
4. What have Fulham had to buy in order to build their new Riverside stand? (Hint, it's not steel, concrete, plastic seats, roofing materials, new flood lights or gold leaf bog rolls). A section of the River Thames. I don't know who they bought it from, but permanently obstructing a public footpath is an offence, which happened when they built the back end of their new stand, so they had to apply to move the footpath, buy a stretch of river and reinstate it. You are also not allowed to build on or over your neighbours land (or river).
5. Who is Fulham's all time leading goal scorer? Gordon Davies
6. What is unusual about the Craven Cottage team dugouts? jjamez is correct with this one - they are the only one's in top flight English football where you have to walk across the pitch to get to them. The (maybe temporary) new ones built at the foot of the new Riverside stand don't have a lid on them (as yet?), but neither do the ones at Old Trafford.
7. Who's statue is outside the ground? Johnny Haynes
8. (a) Who's statue used to be outside the ground? jjamez got this too, Michael (gotta be feeling someone) Jackson
Hint - the 7' plus erection was installed (what?) after the club owner at the time had invited him to watch a Fulham v Wigan match (such a joy Laugh ) and he subsequently passed away in, er "unusual" circumstances? Watching the Wigan match and his demise have not as yet, been linked - did the FBI miss something totally bleedin' obvious guv?
8. (b) What did the former owner (of both club and statue) blame on it's removal? Former chairman Mohamed Al-Fayed declared it would result in bad luck and that it was ( in his tiny mind) the only reason Fulham had remained in the Prima Donna League while he was in charge and it was the main reason Fulham were relegated back to the Chumpionship that season. There are no records of the statue ever kicking a ball in anger, saving a penalty or scoring a goal for Fulham to back up his assertions.
9. Where was it situated from 2014 to 2019? Does anyone really care where it is now? The National Football Museum (now in Manchester). No, apart from Al-Fayed. (It might be in Harrods, but who else cares?). The NFM removed it from display, but as Al-Fuckwit gave it to them, it's likely in a back room of theirs somewhere.
10. Fulham have scored 7 twice (so far) on their travels this season. Since joining the Football League, their biggest ever win is 10:1 v Ipswich Town (home, old 1st Division, 1963), their heaviest defeat is 10:0 at Liverpool (League Cup, 1986). Fulham beat The Shaymen 0-8 in Division 3 in 1969, their biggest ever away win, with a team captained by some far from statuesque young sprite called Johnny Haynes and shortly after the Shaymen had sold star defender Chris Nichol to Luton. (I might have been stood on the Speedway track for that one, or was it Stoke in the Cup, or was it both? I was still at junior school at the time, honest guv, and Town were rampaging up the 2nd Division at the time, so how would I remember?). I (or you) may have mentioned this before in another Fulham thread.
So the real question iiiiis .....
Who is the only other team Fulham have scored 8 against away from home? (Clue - not in the same season, nor even close to it). Their best FA Cup win is shown as 7 - 0: vs Swansea City 11/11/1995 FA Cup R1, however they beat Luton Town, then of the Southern League First Division 3-8 in the FA Cup 1st Round, January 11th 1908.
After checking all over the interweb, Fulham only scored one against us on Saturday and the only thing Mitrovic got was a yellow card for throwing himself on the floor several times, fouling one of our lads and moaning at the ref. Despite the moaning of Fulham fans all over the interweb, the records show we won at theirs, they won at ours, we both got 3 points for our efforts.
So in the spirit of Mock the Week, the winners of the quiz are everyone who joined in.
