I understand where you are coming from but IMO, I think that something that has been somewhat forgotten over the past 25 years, not just at the Shrine, but all over, is that it is not about fielding your all round best players, all the time. It is about fielding the best team, in the best formation to win the game. Of course your best goalkeeper is always going to be your best keeper regardless of your opposition, but from that point on it becomes horses for courses, i.e. your teams best CB who is particular good at defending aerial crosses, is not necessarily the best choice against a team who you know will almost always play on the ground. Your best player of a cross field ball from midfield, is not necessarily the best midfielder against a team who you know will probably sit back.

All this we play this formation or that formation are words that should never be heard, it should be we played that formation against that team because. I think this season has become a massive advertisement for what happens when your opposition knows in advance, exactly how you will line up and what your probable line up will be. I do understand that some consistency is needed for players to know what their colleagues will do and that only comes from playing together for a time, certainly not just the few weeks of pre-season.
