I didn't mention that defeat against City. It holds bad memories.
It was the last game I went to with my dad for about 20 years. He rang up the night before and asked if I wanted to go. I said yes and he said he'd pick me up about 6.
It got to half 7 and he still hadn't turned up. I didn't drive back then, so I had no other way of getting there. Anyway he turned up about 25 to.
I lived in Gomersal then. Me and Chaffers that is. Anyway, we'd got as far as the Swan traffic lights at Liversedge, it was chucking it down and the match was well into the first half by now, so we decided to go back.
I got home and never intended to go back to Leeds Road again. We'd lost 10-1 to City a few weeks earlier and I really had lost my love for Huddersfield Town. I didn't go to another game that season.
The next season came around and I was told that our Paul wants to go to a football match and I'm taking him to see Huddersfield. We'd been relegated by then, and were now in the 3rd division. So off we went. On the bus, still couldn't drive. Paul would've been 6 then and we kept going and we still go now. All three of us sit together.
As I've mentioned before, I started taking my dad along for a few games before he died.
