January 20th:
On this date in 1970, we beat QPR 2-0, with Frank Worthington scoring both, at Leeds Road. The win moved us top of the 2nd Division. We would remain top of the league right till the end of the season. Frank scored 19 goals that season.
We have had two, yes two, Premier League matches on this day. Unfortunately though, we lost them both. In 2018, we lost 2-0 away at Stoke. A poor game in which we only had three shots on target.
In 2019, another defeat. This time it was live on Sky on a Sunday afternoon against Manchester City. It was the first match since David Wagner left the club and we had Mark Hudson in charge. There were rumours flying around that the club had been in contact with somebody called Jan Siewert. Never heard of him.
Neither had Sky Sports and so they went in to interview a bloke in the crowd, who they were sure was him. It wasn't it was a bloke called Martin from Wakefield.
As you can see from the picture, we were already three nil down by this stage, which was the final score. Not bad really, because City had scored 19 goals in their last three matches.
On a much brighter note, back in 1993, we beat Doncaster Rovers 3-0 in the Autoglass Trophy. Gary Barnett, Iain Dunn and a Kieran O'Regan penalty in front of a massive Leeds Road crowd of 1,535.
