Attendance: TBC (405 PNE fans)

Referee: Mr A Woolmer

No idea how we won this, distinctly average for 75 minutes although they had created some chances but we were bailed out by Iversen being immense as per usual, a distinctly chilly night on Teeside saw the 405 of us who went hoping for the team to put in a performance but as per many of our recent games we flattered to deceive for long periods of this game.
We started brightly had an early chance which fell to Maguire but he took way too long to get the ball under control and the chance was lost.
Our build up was too slow and the lack of movement from the players when we had the ball was all too obvious compared to the home side who looked confident when on and off the ball
After the initial flurry Boro got on top Tavernier flashed across in from the left but Watmore just couldn't get on the end of it and we escaped for the time being
Riis got in down the left hand side but Browne couldn't get on the end of it injuring himself in collision with a home defender.
A goal looked on the cards for the home and duly arrived just after the half hour, corner McNair easily beats Hughes ball in off the underside of the bar, no more than they deserved. We rallied and could have had two penalties Riis was barged in the back nothing given and Earl looked to be brought down in the box, Mr Woolmer said no.
Boro totally dominated the last couple of minutes of the first half we could barely get the ball, from the edge of the box with four defenders around him Watmore tried to chip the Dane, he made a fine save tipping the ball over the bar.
Booing from the away support.
Boro should have been out of sight in the second half Peltier had an effort tipped onto the bar, the Dane also saved from McNair and Sporar add i another two saves could quite easily have been five down
The Boro penalty area was a no go area for vast periods of the second half until we broke away and forced a corner with thirteen minutes left, great take by Whiteman and in it went from Evans, Boro retailiated and had a huge shout for a penalty Woolmer said no again and we broe at speed Johnson into the box squared a poor ball which didn't reach Evans however some excellent inept defending by Bamba hitting the ball at McNair were it rebounded to Riis, cut past one player and ball into net, barely believable leading.
Saw the game out reasonably comfortably and left with the points
.Going four at the back with the substitutions made a difference and the experience of Ched plus having two forwards on teh pitch was also helpful, it buys Frankiee some time but still sub standard for long perods of the game

Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder told BBC Tees:

"The result is always the most important thing for me. What happens in both boxes is key. We dominated play, possession and we created chances. We were comfortable.

"With the work that we'll do in January we will improve. But it's the era now, and we should be sitting on six points after two games and we're not.

"We've not stuck the ball in the back of the net or kept it out of the net; it's simple things.

"They've [played as] individuals. These are things [the players] need to recognise."

Preston boss Frankie McAvoy told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I always felt if we could get a goal we'd go on to win the game.

"I spoke to the players at half-time and said 'look we've been 1-0 down before, we'll do what we did against Coventry'.

"We got fortunate. Their player makes a mistake at the end. He passes it to our player. But it's a good finish.

"The biggest thing is the team spirit. I felt like we showed that."
Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
