Terrierific performance by Town, particularly in the first half-hour where we played more of an "Ishmael ball" type of play (remember Barnsalee 2x last season?) against his side than our usual Careless ball and as a result some of the WBA players were clearly struggling to work out wtf was going on. That said, while the ball back over their press into space was being very effective it was a passing move along the floor with a well placed pass from Scott High that opened the Baggies back door for Ward to cross and Sinani to tap in at the back stick.
For the 4th game on the trot, Town took the lead, the last two however we blew them - could we hang on this time?
Not sure how Gardner-Hickmans volley didn't rip the net off the posts, as it flew just wide, or how Danny Ward missed a free shot at goal either. Sorba the Taff was also clean through but the ball bobbled up off his leg as he looked to see where the keeper was. Town kept Karlan Grant quiet, mostly by doubling up on him to restrict him to crosses and stop him cutting inside. That only 5 shots were on target from either side says that both sides need to improve on that in a big way to worry the top two.
"He's electric, we got him from Charlton Athletic" (where've I heard that before?
) Naby Sarr and Scott High joint man-of-the-match for Town for me. Special mention to Careless and the coaching team for coming up with tactics, given the injuries we had and Tom Lees throwing a late sicky, to stifle West Brom more or less from the off in their own half and not in our box and then play through or over their high press. They were always going to come at us eventually but the back 3 between them dealt with anything played over or through our press for the most part and Nicholls dealt with most things lobbed into the box.
So the big question is - was Wakey sat in The Peacock for the 2nd half? That early goal maybe promised a goal fest but it didn't pan out that way.
