In about '57/'58, Albion's friendly game against a Russian Army side - Red Banner - was actually televised 'live' on BBC. (In them days we only ever had The Cup Final and The Amateur Cup Final in full.)
Albion won 6-5, with Ronnie Allen getting a couple and missing a penalty. At half-time there was no punditry - instead we watched teenager Davy Burnside come on and juggle the ball for the full break.
The next day, at playtime, all the kids were trying to emulate his ball skills:
he had juggled left foot to right to left, etc; then with his head for about a minute; then shoulders; then back to the left foot again and so on, - and the ball hardly touched the floor for 5 mins!
No one outside The Hawthorns had heard of him an hour before that match, but he became a Nationwide hero in 5 minutes!
