Careless was expecting Hull to come out in a 3-5-2 so he said, which helped them beat Boro but they reverted to 4-4-2, was that to try disrupt his game plan? which as many of their fans have pointed out, is as successful for them as trying to win a goldfish with a handful of ping-pong balls at the Hull fair.
Beyond that, McCann seemed to have picked more players from Hull FC and Hull KR than he did from Hull City. Just how many rugby tackles, body checks, kicking him into touch and deliberate obstructions does it take for a ref to give a Hull player a yellow card for a foul on O'Brien?
He set his stall out with the 1st minute yellow for Colwill, which to be fair his foot was high, then bottled loads afterwards. Only 3 yellows is not a testament to how well the ref kept the lid on this game because he didn't. Yes it's a derby game and you expect some needle ... but this lad needs a monthly appointment at Specsavers. Amazing I'm moaning about a ref when we won, but .....
Overall we were more clinical (can't believe I'm saying that about a Town side after the last few seasons) and for the most we part played the better football.
There were more fouls and players being held, tripped and god knows what else than in the penalty Liverpool got at Anfield against us when Smithy pulled a red shirt sideways before Tom Lees got his head on the ball for the first.
Mini-Scanz's shot for the 2nd was as perfect as they come. His similar goal last season he said came off his shin. This one was pure boot leather.
More please in the next two games.
