When you are that far up in the mountains, finding or creating enough flat land for a back garden let alone an airport is a bit of an issue.
As for getting a train station up there, it's a bit like Dent Station in the Dales. Why is it so far from Dent? Well 'appen they wanted to build it near the railway line.
Alternatively it's like the line over and through the Rockies in Canada - it goes round and round in ever increasing/decreasing circles. How high do you want to build those circles and make it viable? Hell there's a bunch of idiots riding push bikes that come through here every year, just cadge a lift off them.
