Right. Personal opinion here. You don't have to agree. You probably won't but........
If a player takes a shot on goal and it goes in via a deflection, in my opinion, whether it's going in or going wide, it's that player's goal, not an own goal. It's wrong to give an own goal to a defender who's just doing his job of trying to block the shot. And it's only since Sky came on the scene that these things were changed.
The Pearson own goal last week was different. It wasn't a shot, it was a cross and he got his feet mixed up and deflected the cross into his own net.
This has annoyed me since the day Steve Mounie was denied a perfectly good goal at home to Bournemouth when his shot brushed the little toe of a defender.
