I still think for me, Hugill is going to need to prove himself, I was not overly impressed by the 15 goal season when on loan at QPR, I certainly did not see any goals which would have considered for goal of the week, let alone goal of the month or season.
If we look at his history, what I see does make me scratch my head, even though that is not hard. If we just look at the last 3-4 years, the Sham signed him in Jan 18 for £8 million. During all his time at the Sham, he only made 3 appearances for them, all off the bench, not scoring at all. In August 18 he was loaned out to Middlesbrough, between August 18 and May 19 he made 20 starts and 17 appearances from the bench (starting to see 'Bench' a fair bit) scoring 6 across the whole 37 games. Needless to say Middlesbrough did not put an offer in for him. The Sham then loaned him out for the one decent (ish) season of his whole career at QPR, again QPR did not go after him, even though he scored 13 from 39 in the league. He was returned to the Sham who then just a year ago sold him on to Norwich, where he has started just 7 games, but has made 24 appearances from the bench scoring just 4 from the whole 31 games league games.
It strikes me this is a player who knows what to say, remember this video was just last August. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SIDnLPiozg
I will definitely give this guy a chance to show what he can do, but I just hope we have not wasted the opportunity to bring in a striker who may have been better suited. In reality perhaps this is one of those situations where the club have thought, we need a striker who might do ok in the championship, but may not be good enough for the Premier League, so we can bring him in on loan, hope we get promoted then send him back.
