Well, it`s good to get something right occasionally; doesn`t happen very often. Mind you, I also said some weeks ago that our place in the play-offs was a `gimme` so I suppose that balances things out. Yin and yang, as they say.....
To my thinking, such as it is, I`d make Stockport favourites for the other promotion spot. They`re the only one of the contenders showing anything like consistent form at the moment and they`ll have the advantage of playing at home until the final. It`s consistency over the last few weeks that will have done for us if we don`t make the play-offs; especially at home. We`ve played some really good stuff from what I`ve seen but we can`t put one in the net against Wealdstone, who everybody else seems to be scoring against for fun. If we don`t make it, that`ll be the one that did for us; those extra 2 points would make all the difference.
The situation with us and the play-offs on Saturday is pretty straightforward as I see it. To be in it, we need to win it; if we don`t we won`t. What makes it intriguing to me is that Halifax are in a very similar position and they need to win just as much as we do, if not more. Should make an entertaining game and, like Dancing, I`ll be in front of the computer screen. I`ve got a sneaking feeling we might just do it. Oh dear.....I wish I hadn`t said that.
Whatever happens on Saturday I`m certainly a much happier bunny now than I was at the start of the year. I agree that James Rowe has done a fantastic job for us but I think we`ve also got to give a lot of credit to the Board; they appointed him and, so far at least, they seem to have backed him all the way. If they`ve been able to do that without venturing too far out onto an overly fragile financial limb I reckon that they deserve a round of applause too.
Regardless of what happens over the next few days / weeks I really do think that the club is going in the right direction again. Please let that feeling turn out to be a yin and not a yang.
