Allardyce

I was in favour of Allardyce when he was brought in, because I think he knows how to get results. I thought he gave us the best chance of staying up. Admittedly, I didn't think anyone would keep us up though.

His teams have always been a mix of grit and flair and that's what I wanted back at this club...

IMO he inherited what is by far the worst squad in the club's top flight history thanks to a disastrous window under Bilic and Dowling. For me, the squad was an absolute embarrassment.

Now I'll be honest, despite the lack of quality in the squad he inherited, I was disappointed that he struggled to improve the performances initially...

However, since his signings have come in, we've looked IMO 10x better. We have a structure, a pattern of play, an identity.

And that's simply because the guy has the eye to know what we needed. Straight away he identified that we needed a defensive midfielder and proper forward who could hold the ball, which were 2 things that Bilic and Dowling were blind to. And to his credit, he got in much of what we needed while having zero cash to spend and simply having to 'wheel and deal' in the loan market. I think if we had just a Yokulsu type from the start of the season, we would've stayed up.

I firmly believe we would be in a completely different position if Allardyce had the £30m that Bilic spent on Grady and Grant in the summer. I bet my bottom dollar we'd be in the shake up rather than dead and buried...

But it is what it is.

As far as next season goes...

I think we could do a lot worse than keeping Allardyce around as he's shown he knows what it takes to get results and build a proper team. He's been promoted from the Championship before and his West Ham side that he got promoted last time he managed in the Championship outscored our promoted team last year. However, he will only stick around if we've got some cash because he's no mug. He knows we will not get promoted with the likes of Sawyers and Livermore plodding around the middle of the park. He's a proper coach who knows what it takes to get results.

However, unlike Josh, I don't think the club will back him because I don't think we've got a pot to p*ss in...

I think he will walk. We will get a young coach who is simply happy to have a chance at Championship level and therefore happy with no money. Success will depend upon blind luck if we happen to uncover a coach who is a gem. Potentially we could go into freefall if we go for someone like Appleton in...

So personally, I'd be in favour of keeping and backing Big Sam. I think he would get us promoted if he could acquire 4-5 players from sales of Johnstone and Pereira. I don't think it will happen though and fear freefall...
