And my answer was ROY POOLE who was a left back.

He did score all four for Chesterfleld in 1961-2 but against Colchester. I had my ninth birthday in June 1961, so my memory wasn't fully reliable. We did beat Stockport 4-0 in the FA Cup in 1962-3.

My dad's team's full back must therefore have been Ivan Poole, who certainly was Terry Poole's brother, but I'm not now sure about Roy Poole, because he was apparently born in Sheffield.

Jim Lovie also played when Poole scored 4 and I played against Jim years later. He became a bookie. When we beat his team he said he thought Chesterfield should have signed me instead of Phil Tingay. Can't be right all the time Jim. Gerry Clarke played in that Colchester game too. I played cricket against him. After that historical research I now feel really old, but then I did shake hands with Sam Hardy ...... who ...... my dad told me he was the greatest goalie who ever lived!
