IMO it seems to me that our incoming deals were based on raising funds from outgoing deals.
So presumably we were hanging our hat on selling Austin, Zohore, Grosicki (plus maybe Phillips and Hegazi) before the deadline. As no deals have gone through, we didn't have a pot to p*ss in.
Couldn't even afford a loan fee...
I guess we are still hoping to shift a couple of them to the Championship. Which might eventually free up some funds to loan from the same level.
We will then try to save face by saving that whoever we acquire, even if it's a desperation signing like Andre Grey, was our 'top target'.
If any move for Deeney or Grey materialises, which I think it will, it smacks of shear desperation. Deeney can't run anymore and Grey has had 4 season in the Premier League and never got into double figures. He mustered 2 goals in all competitions last year and is renowned for ill discipline. He can't pass or link up either, so don't expect football to be as easy on eye.
I just can't see how we're going to be able to stump up the cash for Grant as those outgoings will raise next to nothing. Unless Huddersfield are desperate to get rid, I just can't see how it will happen. As for Josh King, he will have plenty of suitors, so that's pretty much a none starter for us as we are probably the least appealing choice in the league right now.
Such as embarrassing window after going through all that effort to go up. Honestly never expected this...
