And dare I say if we're going to be successful this season, I think we may be most effective in the same way. I would say Diallo probably has the legs on Slimani out and out.
Also, that is why Imho I think Grant could be successful.
I think Slimani probably came in as a Vardy replacement, when it looked like Vardy was going to Arsenal.
But then Vardy turned down the move to Arsenal...
So to be honest, it was never going to work out for him. Leicester play 1 up top and Vardy had scored 24 in the previous year and was red hot.
Slimani was probably intended to play the same role, he's powerful and fast. But nobody would've displaced Vardy at that time.
That said, if you look at Slimani's record that season 16/17, it's still pretty good. 7 Premier League goals from 13 starts. 1 goal in the Champions league from 3 starts. As I recall, he scored against us.
Admittedly now he's 32 and had iffy seasons in 17/18 (only 3 starts 0 goals) and 18/19 (poor spell Fenerbache) before redeeming himself at Monaco 19/20 (9 goals and 7 assists in 18 games). It would be a gamble and short term fix, but on the premise he would probably be a nominal fee, I think it would be a risk worth taking. Surely we need one striker at the club who can chip in with headed goals. IMO we should be looking at him as well as a Grant/Niang type, because Austin, Zohore and HRK must be surplus to requirements at this level. If we only went for Grant, our main 2 'strikers' in Robbo and Grant would be 2 players who spent last season playing in midfield.
