Difficult balancing act really. The question will yield different responses from different people based on their personal circumstances.
Society would implode if current restrictions were kept in place indefinitely. When this happens, we would have no choice to stick two fingers up to the virus.
But I think the fact we have got past summer buys some more time. The next landmark now is Christmas which could cause some kick offs if restrictions are heavy. Then we have summer 2021, with major sporting events and summer holiday season. A lot of people missed out on summer holidays this year, I don't think they would be willing to do that again.
It seems the government and health advisers are hoping that we make advances in treatment and prevention before we get to that point of critical mass. I'd say next summer would be the absolute deadline for that.
Any pharma company who is able to eradicate this disease will make a lot of money so they will be working around the clock. With that in mind, I'm hopeful of some good news in the coming months. We are approaching that time of year when data is likely to be available from the various phase 3 vaccine trials in progress. So let's all keep our fingers crossed.
