I think Ska'd's book's great. Anyone who's ever read any of Catherine Cookson will know how terrible writing can be when written in local dialect - in Cookson's case, the north-east - but Ska'd's writing is perfectly fine. I'm from the north east, so I know that dialect and accent very well, but I grew up in Wednesbury and West Bromwich, so I know that one too. Cookson mangled her dialogue but Ska'd gets his just right. His book is also a good balance between the Albion and the characters in the story. I'm part way through it and it's a top read in my opinion, and I want the sequel already. Congratulations, Ska'd!
