Blades 2-2 Preston - report

United's pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Friday ended all square, with the visitors equalising in the final seconds of the game.

John Lundstram's first-half opener was cancelled out by a Daniel Johnson penalty, only for Billy Sharp to score with a spot-kick of his own minutes later. The Blades looked on course for another win until Jayden Stockley scored from a late corner.

For the final pre-season action before the Premier League opener against Wolves, Lundstram started, whilst McBurnie partnered Sharp in attack.

It was a very quiet opening 15 minutes or so on a lovely afternoon at S2. Norwood won and delivered a free-kick from a dangerous position, but Bauer did enough to stop Jack Robinson getting on the end of it. Moments later, Norwood sent in a cross from the left, it wasn't cleared properly, but Pearson blocked Lundstram's goal bound effort.

At the other end, Preston threatened three times is six minutes, including hitting the woodwork twice in as many seconds. Foderingham was equal to Bodin's tame effort, but was indebted to his goal frame as Sinclair hit the post having beaten the challenges of Robinson and Jagielka, before Barkhuizen rattled the bar on the rebound.

But it was the Blades who took the lead in the latter stages of the first period. Bryan's cross from the left wasn't cleared properly and after Osborn was denied, McBurnie teed up LUNDSTRAM who calmly stroked the ball home into the bottom corner.

Within 60 seconds of the restart, United could have doubled the lead. Mousset beat the offside trap but dragged his effort wide of Hudson's far post. And that miss was punished by the visitors on 54 minutes. Barkhuizen advanced into the area following a slip by Jagielka and referee Moss pointed straight to the spot following a challenge by the retreating Robinson. From 12 yards, North End skipper JOHNSON sent Foderingham the wrong way.

But before the hour, United were back in front. Pearson was adjudged to have handled in the box under pressure from Mousset and unsurprisingly, SHARP converted from the spot for his third goal of pre-season.

The game remained open and both sides were creating chances, the most obvious one saw Osborn rattle the bar with a shot after Basham had robbed Sinclair high up the pitch. But with the last action of the contest, Preston managed to draw level. Gallagher's corner from the left caused United problems and STOCKLEY was able to bundle the ball home.

Blades: Foderingham, Baldock, Basham, Lundstram (Slater 45), McBurnie (Mousset 45, Hackford 72), Sharp, Jagielka, Norwood, J. Robinson, Osborn, Bryan.
Unused: Verrips, Gordon, Graham, Brunt.
