Pub sign cricket is to do with the (theoretical) number of legs contained within a pub name, i.e. the Jolly Collier would have two legs, the George & Dragon would have a total of six legs between the knight and the monster, so you'd score two runs passing the first pub and six runs passing the second. Getting out was something to do with passing the King's Head or the King's Arms, I think?
We played it that you were out if the pub sign had no legs e.g. The Royal Oak
