Other than the Brexit Referendum leading to us opting for two of the least effective governments in history I don't really see any valid Brexit connection. Spain, Italy and France have all fared badly in the "crisis". That leaves only Germany as a major European player to do relatively well. For sure we didn't seem to learn the lessons from anywhere else, but that's the memory of Empire ruling our thought-processes. We always know better than Johnny Foreigner. We looked at South Korea and all we could discuss was whether their tracking and tracing was infringing the liberty of their citizens, instead of noticing how many lives they were saving and starting preparations to copy them.
Deep down I think it is fairly shallow to attempt to use Covid-19 as a tool to stop Brexit, which is essentially The Independent's not-very-independent agenda. I think they should be asking questions like why are we creating a way of life that bungs old people into homes in which almost any infection will be catastrophic. Why is old age a diagnosis? Why does it disqualify the old from having a voice? And second we should be asking what is the point of the imprisoning the young and destroying the economy to supposedly protect the old, the vulnerable and the multiply-ill? Why aren't our resources directed where they are needed?
We applaud our NHS to encourage its brave workers, but it urgently needs reform. It is bureaucratic and slow. We keep hearing from different bodies like Public Health England and they all have their own agendas and mimic politicians in obfuscating every answer.
Social Care should not be separate from the health care system and it certainly should not be possible for local government to divert resources intended to improve matters to either other areas or their own stretched bank accounts.
Boris is a brainy nit. He's played the role throughout his adult life, but hey good men don't often get to the top. Look at America, France got an under-sized banker who married his drama teacher, Hungary's got its very own maniac, Austria elects almost anything, Spain has a leader who is happy to imprison as revolutionaries those who held an election, Italy has a whole fund of potential nutters available. Suspect all those who want to wield power over others, they are one step away from dressing you in a gimp mask and sending you out to buy a new dog leash.
