Dancing, I think your portrayal of Boris is wrong. He's highly intelligent, but I think he only gets big broad-brush ideas. I think detail bores him. He knows where he wants to get to roughly, but has no ideas what lies in between. Left to his own devices he blunders into trouble.

Cummings is generally much sharper which makes all this so amazing. If a Cabinet Minister had done what he's done himself, he be condemning him to Boris and demanding he be sacked. He'd be disparaging. He'd call the man an idiot. He does tend to see the ultimate destination and usually can fill in a few of the steps along the way, even if we hate what he's saying and why. Maybe he did have Covid, because everything he did was either wrong or didn't make sense (or perhaps something completely different happened and it is even more discreditable than the current story).

I watched a re-run of the Derry Girls last night and their reactions when trying to make excuses for whatever they'd done wrong were a bit reminiscent of Dominic on the spot. Basically his problem is, he was a swot at school, so he probably didn't get in trouble enough to learn how to handle it. They should have brought back Paxman, dressed him as a headmaster and Cummings would have cracked in minutes.
