I don’t think Irvine was given enough time and is shouldering the blame for the mistakes of others. Let’s not forget approximately a dozen players left and the same number came in over the summer so is 19 games enough to judge him on? I was surprised he was appointed but wanted to give him a chance.
JP needs to take his share of the blame for his recent mishandling of the club, he sacks Clarke with no replacement ready and then appoints a man who cannot speak the language. He said he’d learnt from previous mistakes but in the summer he goes for cheap options in replacing our full backs by bringing in players who have never played in this country, it would have been better to stretch the purse strings and go for more experience i.e. Bardsley & Cresswell
The coaching staff have come in for stick from a minority who now feel their wolves connections make them unfit to work for us, even though they were good enough under Hodgson & Clarke when we managed to finish in our highest position in over 30 years. I don’t care about the wolves all I want is the Albion to be successful, and any way villa will always be our main rival.
The people who recruit the players Richard Garlick, Terry Burton and Mervyn Day have clearly made some poor choices, but seem to have come out of this with no blame attached.
The players should take most of the blame as they are the ones who I have seen making numerous individual errors. Supporters moaned when Valero and Brown were not given a go, and yet nothing improved when they were in the team.
Those fans that did not want Irvine appointed are also to blame, as they could not wait to begin the campaign to remove him (one rang WM to say he wish we had lost against Villa so we could have sacked him) We’ve been in relegation battles before and we all need to support the team. We have one of the lowest budget’s in the Premier league so it is always going to be difficult to compete each week.
Now JP must decide who to appoint, and I hope it is neither Pulis or Sherwood. Pulis is another Colin and Sherwood had his chance to join and blew it by wanting to much money.
Let’s hope it’s a quick appointment and that JP releases some cash in the January sales.
