I don't really think there's any excuse. Even if it's not meant, footballers (and anyone in the public eye) must know that every word they say and write is scrutinised. In a world of 24 hour news channels, they're always wanting stories and scandals. He's voluntarily handed them one.
Can I also say he should be had up for bleaching his hair? He looks daft.
