Maybe you should ask David Elleray.
Isn't it odd that the man who made such a terrible and historic decision for/against a small club is the big motivator behind VAR? Where would we have been now if we had reached that final? Put that one decision right and a whole chasm of Dr Who anomalies opens up …………
The thing is though IT'S A GAME. Part of what we learn from playing games is to take the rough with the smooth. That man's arm was slightly offside is pointless and damaging bollocks. Number one he can't score with his arm anyway and he can't run on it either. Number two that's why we have a ref'. He's the arbiter of FACT. If he says it was so in good faith, then it was. Look in the scorebook! It is more important we learn to win and lose with good grace than that every decision is correct when viewed over in slow motion.
Which aspect of David Elleray's career deserves more opprobrium. THAT decision or teaching at Harrow School?
