If we sack Irvine, the club has to bring in someone that has experience working as a Head Coach because we won't rip up our set-up midway through the season. That process takes time and is best saved until the end of the season. Remember that it is not just changing the coaching set-up, it is letting other people go, bringing in new people, changing peoples jobs and their roles etc. It takes weeks to do, weeks that we don't have.
Someone experienced working as a Head Coach falls into 2 categories. A Hodgson type figure who will stay for 2 years and steady the ship or someone who can be at the club for 3+ years and build something.
Experienced figure - Dick Advocaat.
Someone to build - Martin Jol, Quique Flores, Marco van Basten (if his health is ok), Tim Sherwood.
The above are some options. They all speak English and are all capable of doing a good job.
I would like to see Sherwood come in. Flores was my first choice but he seems dead on to take over at Getafe in Spain. Sherwood is the tough character that our players could do with to kick them up the arse.
