If you were playing around as kids and a score line came up as 1-5 to Hartlepool you'd reject it as unrealistic.
Have they suddenly resurrected Brian Clough?
If I were the keeper I'd just love Sheridan for fielding that team in front of me when he gave me a game.
We've wasted at least three contracts totally in McKay, Gerrard and Weir. We'd have been better off if we just hadn't used them at all as SpireMatt suggested, then at least we'd have had slots to fit in new players.
Up front we have three players other teams would regard as genuine threats in Boden, Fondop-Talom and Denton. Surely someone could find ways to make the most of them onfield and off the bench ….. and to provide the service and the support they need genuinely to threaten the opposition?
Similarly although our midfield is far from laden with talent there is both defensive and attacking potential within the players we possess which rarely seems to surface on either Saturday afternoons or Tuesday evenings.
Although our defensive resources look worryingly slim in view of the unselectable Gerrard, surely Evans and Hollis are big enough and strong enough at the heart of a defence to form the basis of a unit into a unit which Yarney and Sharman might complete IF they could rely on the commitment of those in front of them?
Keepers I just dunno. Jalal is at least two years past an ordinary best and has been unreliable in terms of fitness and performance. To judge the younger guy you'd need him to get a string of games - look at Aaron Ramsdale, he dropped some terrible clangers early on for us, but he's learnt to put mistakes behind him to the extent that Pope and Ramsdale may have soon relegated Pickford to third choice for England if Everton don't improve …….
Everybody in this league is still recruiting whilst we fiddle, unless little Liam counts. I'd be on the look-out for a keeper, a versatile young defender and a proper non-league midfielder who knows how to fight, but how we finance those contracts I haven't a clue. Our manager has painted us into a corner and sounds determined to find the answer to the puzzle he has helped to create. If we survive at all I fear we have the glamour of Alfreton to look forward to.
Sheridan? Well if I were him I'd be too ashamed to stay.
