I'd agree that Irvine can't be to blame for the players individual mistakes, but what he can be blamed for is his incompetent selections throughout the season.
Why is Yacob never used? He's the only midfielder at the club who has any defensive discipline.
Fair enough, against Palace and Villa at home, he might not be needed. But against Man City, who have only attacking midfielders (and no strikers fit), you need someone to get close to Silva.
We got caught on the break badly because our defensive midfielders Mozza and Mulumbu are both box to box players. Mozza is at his best going forward, why is he sitting in front of the back 4?
Why are Dorrans and Gardner nailed on starters ever week when you could count the number of good games they have had between them on one hand? Dorrans is long gone as a Premiership footballer. Gardner has never been anymore than a squad player for dross, relegation threatened teams.
We passed the ball better yesterday without Dorrans. No doubt he would've played but for injury.
Why do we need Baird on a bench which already contains Dawson, Gamboa, Yacob and Brunt? In which possible permutation would Baird be required? No sign of Samaras or Blanco though, so little to change if we're chasing the game.
Surely Samaras would be ideal for a counter attacking away day. Anyone who has watched him for Celtic in the Champions League will know that he's a great out ball and threat on the counter with his pace, power and physique. Never been given a fair chance.
The guy has admitted that he picks the team based on training. Surely what you do on the pitch is what should count.
Too many mistakes. Too many bulls*it interviews. Too many bulls*it excuses.
Yesterday 'we were doing okay but made mistake on their first attack'. Well actually, they had already missed a sitter from 2 yards that Foster had saved with his legs before the goal. Because we had no defensive midfielders to sit and deal with Man City's counter.
Against Chelsea 'we were doing okay before the goal which was offside'. No, we were being massacred. Chelsea missed a sitter inside a minute and the goal was onside anyway.
Complete incompetent embarrassment.
His CV wasn't worth of an interview in the first place. I have no idea how he got the job and no idea how he's still here.
