Wow, amazing Dancing! Obviously you are always seeing full games whereas often I see highlights and that means I see mostly good stuff ......... but from my skewed perspective, when we produce the goods the thrust almost always comes from the full back positions, (because we lack strength up front?). A lot of Jones's work might be more productive with Gnanduillet at centre forward, but he still creates danger. Darikwa doesn't play the quite same way, lays off different balls, does occasionally get crosses completely wrong, but goals do come from his side (and if it weren't for him that would very much be our weaker side. If Drew came back as I hope he is doing I'd just move Darikwa forward, that would be a real threat down the right. BUT you are right to point out weaknesses in his game, which is the very reason a club with any sense would come for him. He isn't going back. He may well be playing his third best position. If he wants it he can develop.
Ryan knows his game and could slot in at Championship level. His skills look good and he tackles. He won't be a let-down but it's pretty unlikely he'll get much better and to be honest I'm guessing the same goes for Morsy and Doyle (though the improvement he's made could mean he's a new man). All I'm saying is if I were buying someone I'd be looking for guys who could improve and in our team ..... despite Roberts and Morsy being the stars, Ryan being the fulcrum, Doyle the goals and Tommy the stopper, that's Raglan and Darikwa. (I'd have hoped I might be mentioning Banks and Gardner but their development seems to be going through a Jethro Tull period.)
Football's a strange and misleading game, when I look at our defence it doesn't seem to be the winger playing full back who loses his man, it isn't even the nutter playing on the left, and it generally isn't the inexperienced man thrust in at centre back ..... far more often it seems to be Evatt, who at times can also look great and who is a big favourite of mine and most other fans ...... and when he isn't cocking up, it is Tommy, who sadly has probably left it too late to leave the club for something better. Maybe it's down to a lack of confidence in their mates, but if I were isolating issues for the team I'd say Roberts isn't scoring enough and Evatt and Lee are making mistakes. And they're all good players. Hope it comes good against the Posh, but that's another tough one. Happy New Year.
