Blick made several huge mistakes today...
The first was not picking Austin and Diangana on the bench. The second was the subs, which were "pick out of a hat" Pardew style subs.
We were good against Forest but didn't create any clear chances (the goals were a goalkeeping error and misplaced cross). Today we created one chance when Phillips disposed their defender.
As yet, 180 minutes in, we haven't created a chance by playing through a team once.
3 goal scored, 3 goalkeeping mistakes. As for today's goal, I genuinely think I would've saved that. It was almost like the Millwall keeper tuck a bung patting that into his own net.
I'm sorry, but the team is setup all wrong, we play with wingers who just go on the outside and whip the ball in every time but never have anybody in the box. Neither winger ever looks to get on the back stick when the other winger crosses and we have no presence up front. What is the point? Even with Austin, Gayle, Lewandowski or whoever up top, they would be outnumbered as we don't have anyone joining from midfield. If you rely on crosses with 1 up top, you need wingers who can also chip in with a header or a attacking midfielder who can (think Tim Cahill). We deliver crosses with no purpose.
As for the subs of HRK and Burke, can anyone tell where they were playing? The team had no shape, was completely hotchpotch and illogical. There didn't seem any desire to get the ball into the box and win it, it was just a case of continuing to plod from side to side at snails pace. Although to be fair to Burke, at least he tried to go forward, unlike most of the others.
This lack of formation is down to Bilic. He has had these players all pre season.
What really annoyed me was at 1-0 we had zero desire to go forward and put the game to bed. There was one occasion when Phillips picked up the ball with the entire pitch ahead of him and stood there and passed backwards. I honestly think if Millwall had come at us from the start they would've beaten us. After we scored and they opened up, they were the the only team in it.
No positives to take from this.
