Now I can remember both Johns. Grandfather was decent at Saltergate. I don't think I realised he'd fathered John at Newcastle who was a team player, never a star. Delighted we signed Billy as we seem to have no players.

Four on the bench and three out on loan, doesn't make much sense to me, specially in the case of Banks who can't get a full game at Northampton in a team which has seized up. What good that's doing him is beyond me.

If Ryan, whose goal at Gillingham was brilliantly controlled, gets a knock our strong midfield will start to look threadbare. (It's great our juniors can beat Aston Villa, aren't there must be a couple of them capable of sitting on a bench in case of emergency?)

Now Margreitter has gone back to Wolves we look very thin. And Gardner worries me. He's obviously talented, but he comes on for ten minutes or so and is immediately injured. Afraid I'm heading towards the conclusion it wasn't talent keeping him out of league football, it was a lack of durability.

Loved us winning at Gillingham, but the two goals we conceded were amateur half hour. Has anyone in our defence heard of marking? On Gillingham's second goal I couldn't spot a Chesterfield player within a yard of a Gillingham counterpart. If we do that at MKD on current form it could be 37-0.
