In the entire history of football, has there ever been a manager sacked from his post but retained at the same club in a less prestigious role? Sorry, but it's wishful thinking. If you've slung your hat into the ring as a head coach then it's a slap in the face to get demoted to anything else within a club; your new players/employees might sympathise, but they wouldn't truly respect you, and the whole thing would be an insult to all concerned.
The only exception is if a manager gets *promoted* to director of football or similar; but I'm far from convinced that Big Dave's talents lie in that direction.
