Team for Man City:
Foster
Wisdom-McAuley-Lescott-Pocognoli
Mulumbu-Yacob
Sessegnon-Gardner-Varela
Berahino
Revert back to the 4-2-3-1 to help us out defensively because today and last week, the 4-3-3 with Dorrans, Morrison and Gardner left too much space just in front of our back 4.
When Man City have possession, which will be a lot of the time, we should defend in a deep 4-4-2 with Sessegnon and Varela dropping back to form a second bank of 4 and Berahino dropping back alongside Gardner. Defending like this will give Man City's back 4 more time in possession but it will stop them from being able to play easy passes into their midfield. It will mean guys like Silva and Nasri having to drop very deep to get the ball which will be good for us because they will be further away from our goal. We should also defend very compactly with our widest players (RB, RM, LB and LM) positioning themselves in line with the edge of our penalty area on their respective side. This compactness in defence will restrict the space in the centre of the pitch for Man City to utilise. This will make them have to take a longer route to get through or revert to crosses which McAuley and Lescott can deal with.
When we have the ball, we should look to move it from back to front at speed through Sessegnon and Varela. Berahino should be more flexible with his movement like he was earlier in the season to drag defenders out of position allowing more space for Sessegnon and Varela. Ideye did it well for our second goal yesterday. Gardner will provide the extra support.
I think we can get a draw at least if the players stay switched on for the whole 90 minutes. We will have to do a lot of defending which will require concentration and communication and then when we have the ball, we will need to make it count by using it correctly and efficiently.
