Underarm bowling is actually illegal now, Dev, unless it`s been agreed otherwise between the captains before the start of the game. If it hadn`t, it would be called a no-ball. The law was changed as a result of that specific incident.
(Some years ago I took the ECB umpiring course, so I`m technically an ECB Level 1 umpire; this is one of those very rare occasions when I feel that I have at least some idea of what I`m talking about. Not a lot, maybe, but just some. I remember that during the course we spent quite some time discussing why the new law contained that caveat about the pre-agreement. Why not just make it illegal and have done with it? It was quite a few years ago now, but I do remember that the consensus was that that would have made more sense. As with many things ECB-related, who know what they were thinking. )
