Personally, whether it was my team or not, I'd simply be working out how much I'd save or not if I attended perhaps 20 home games in the season with my Season Ticket. I'd then want to know how many games that saving equated to in case something happened at the club which pissed me off so much I couldn't bear to turn up, even though I'd already got the ticket ...... The club is hoping you'll make a decision out of loyalty and love for the club, but at some point each fan's personal financial circumstances must eventually lead to a much colder cost-benefit analysis. If for instance fans willingly paying more at the gate prompted the owner to invest £1.3 million in scouting, identifying and developing young talent to improve the team long-term then fans might well be able to justify their own emptying pockets to themselves. If the club's trajectory does not improve and it is clear there is only a plan for more of the same fans will continue to feel exploited and ignored and won't pay.
It is fairly likely we'll be in the promotion race next season, but last season we went down to hot favourites to win the league and look what happened ......... It would be interesting to know if your 25% is paying for the club's past failures or helping to finance its future (and very possibly imaginary) success.
