Tale of 2 halves part 2
#14
I`ve just watched the highlights on SD and really don`t know what all the fuss is about. Not a lot seemed to happen in that second half; I don`t think I missed that much!

It looks like it wasn`t just some of our supporters who got carried away and lost their heads after the equaliser; our `keeper seemed to manage to join in. What Callum Burton did was just plain daft; if you raise your hands to another player`s head, let alone swing an arm at it, you`re likely as not going to get a red card. If you`re already on a yellow card to start with, it`s almost a certainty you`re going to. I don`t think that`s weak refereeing, Dancing; I think 99% of referees would have offed him for that, whatever the other player may or may not have done.

The one thing I might argue about is whether it should have been a penalty. To me, it looked like it happened on the line or maybe even outside the area so should perhaps have been a free-kick. You can see the referee turn round and talk to the linesman - whilst she`s holding the card up, I think – so I`d be inclined to bet a pound to a penny that she`s asking whether it`s inside or outside the area. If that`s the case, it`s the linesman that`s made that decision.

I`ve always wondered whether `keepers generally commit themselves too early when they`re facing a penalty and whether they might save a lot more of them if they stayed on their feet longer. If they did that, perhaps they wouldn`t make it so easy for the taker to decide which side to put the ball. To my eyes, that`s exactly what Will Evans did. That put the taker under pressure to decide himself which side to put it, he lost his nerve at the last second and, as Dancing says, it was a piss-poor penalty as a result. Maybe justice was done after all.

I see from the website that the club has issued a few banning orders as a result of what`s gone on the last couple of games. No surprise there; I think they had to and they should. Make them life bans as far as I`m concerned. My only concern is how enforceable they are; with electronic turnstiles, if the individuals get somebody to buy a ticket for them, how can they be kept out of the ground? Hopefully there`s a way.

I`m not too concerned about a points deduction myself, Matt; the FA don`t normally do that for crowd misbehaviour. It`s more often a hefty fine and/or ground closure, both of which I reckon are distinctly possible. Funnily enough, I`m inclined to think that a ground closure might work to our advantage; if the players can play without the pressure of a (frequently) hostile crowd on their backs, they may actually put in a far better performance.

We`ll just have to wait and see on that one.
