I don't really have any problem with Chadli, to be honest.
It was very unprofessional that he refused to go to Austria last summer, admittedly. I think a professional should do whatever is asked of them, agree or not. That said, when you buy players with better pedigree, they are probably going to hate Pulis' pre season regime which revolves around running rather than any football - effectively gearing the side up for 25% possession in games. Chadli probably wasn't alone in hating this, he was just the guy that spoke up.
But by the same token, why buy players who are used to a more sophisticed pre-season if you're going to persist with a style of play which is better suited to donkeys? This is the one mistake Pulis made both at Stoke and with us, he tried to buy better players and 'mould' them into his style. But turning a luxury player into a work horse rarely works and eventually makes the team worse.
I'm sure we will see the same with Burnley if they start to up the budget and Sean Dyche is allowed to start spending from the upper echelon...
Pulis then chose not to play him, but not sell, so we had £30m of attacking players on the bench (or not) in Chadli and Burke. I mean, if you're never going to play someone, why not sell and replace?
On the one occasion Pulis played him, Leicester away, he scored. So 1 goal from 1 start. He was subsequently dropped in the next game anyway.
When Pardew took over, he picked Chadli but he got injured. That was unfortunate.
Chadli came back at the end of last season, but Darren Moore chose to stick with the same team for all of his games because they were winning. He was available and on the bench, but not chosen.
So while his attitude is questionable, his lack of involvement last season was largely down to management. To be honest, had Pulis tried to evolve our style of play, Chadli would've been key. But he didn't...
Imagine if we had the money to sign that type of player in the Mowbray or Clarke eras, when we actually played football between the lines. Chadli would've been good for 10 goals a season from midfield. Unfortunately he just didn't suit Pulis' style and that's why TP can only take a team so far.
