Personally I'm not happy with the state of the squad and how many outgoings compared to incomings that we have had.
That said, if the owner was asset stripping, we could've sold several additional players than we did.
Dawson and Rodriguez being 2 that we know about. They could've easily been sold and replaced with £5m players, netting the owner another £20m. But we decided to keep them.
In addition, some of our incoming players haven't been on the cheap.
Gayle must be on a Premiership wage. Johnstone cost £6m and we could've got a keeper on a freebie if all the owner was interested in simply making as much cash as possible. Bartley was signed from a fellow relegated team so would've been on Premier wages last season.
So there has been a significant cost reduction, which admittedly is worrying. But I've seen far worse from relegated teams in the past.
As for last season, we seemed to spend much bigger on transfers and wages than when JP was in charge. Unfortunately, we were mismanaged to relegation. It wasn't because the owners didn't back the manager.
Time will tell...
It seems to me the owners (or maybe Jenkins) do want to get us promoted but are trying to do so while saving as much money as possible for contingency. I just hope that we haven't left ourselves too short, as our squad seems very small.
