Apart from the pre-season at Nuneaton I haven`t seen us play for quite a while before last night (health issues, hopefully now resolved) so apart from Drew Talbot the players were all new to me. Overall,  I was impressed with the performance against what seemed to be a decent outfit. Aldershot played some tidy stuff in midfield and, with better finishing, could have got a couple themselves. I know they made the play-offs last year but apparently they`ve lost quite a large chunk of their squad and I don`t know enough about the overall quality at this level to judge them on the basis of last night; I can`t see them having too much of a struggle, though. Credit to their supporters as well; they kept the volume levels up all the way through and I was surprised how many made the trip, geven it involved a 300+mile round trip on a Tuesday night.

A couple of reservations, though. Our defence seemed overly keen on bu$$ering about in our own half at times and giving the ball away as a result; that could (and with calmer finishing should) have cost us at least one goal and we may get punished next time. I`m sure MA will have words about that. It may be just me, but apart from Charlie Carter I didn`t see a great deal of creativity coming from midfield in terms of opening up a defence the way Danny Whitaker could. Fortune was disappointingly subdued when he came on, I thought (perhaps I expected too much too soon after Saturday).

I agree with everything that`s been said about CC. On the basis of this game, I think the club should buy whoever scouted him a very large bottle of scotch for Xmas.I was trying on the way home to think who was the last player of ours who had that sort of control at pace and could finish the way he can. As yet I can`t think of anybody, but one of you probably can. Problem is, of course, as the bloke next to me said, if he carries on like that DA will have the ££££ signs rolling in front of his eyes again in no time at all so he may not be with us too long.

Good to see that things finally seem to be turning a corner and it`s nice once again to be looking for us at the northern end of the table rather than the other. I`m increasingly impressed with MA the more I see and hear of him (he does remind me of Cloughie sometimes; " I did once make a mistake - about 9 years ago, I think. What are laughing at?) and that nice touch at the end of the Nuneaton game certainly went down well.

I know I`m being a grumpy old git but I was a bit teed off at not being able to get a programme last night. To be fair, a few others were as well. The story going round was that the club only had 250 printed and that most of them went to the executive suites. That may or may not be true, but regardless it`s gratifying to know that in this ever-changing world the standards of administration at CFC remain constant. Still, I suppose they didn`t expect nearly 5k to turn up - and when was the last time we had to delay the kick-off because of queues at the ticket office?

Funny old game. Funny old world.
