Did the old fashioned winger start in a central position and then drift to the wing in your heyday drewks (1930’s
)? If so then a modern day central winger is pretty much the same thing.
A good example would be Eden Hazard of Chelsea when Conte started playing Morata and Hazard as a duo in a 3-5-2 rather than the usual 3-4-3. Hazard would start in the centre of the pitch when Chelsea win the ball and then drift across towards the left half-space and left wing to find space. That is pretty much the trait of the central winger.
