Especially as I'm a Handsworth lad myself, I'm really pleased to get him as HC. Loved him as a player, and loved him as a Caretaker HC.

I don't go with this "no experience thing" I'd sooner have someone who right from the off holds the Baggies dear to them first and foremost and who isn't coming to us for a bigger pay packet. Why would Smith do any better just because he's got Championship experience or Potter just because he's done well in Sweden. Everybody starts somewhere and we've got to remember we're now a Championship club, and we're that because of the total ineptitude of 2 "experienced" managers.

Yes, I'd hate it if it all went horribly wrong and Big Dave lost any of the affection we all have for him but that's the risk we've taken, but the players clearly play for him as they proved at the back end of the season even if it does confirm that they're a bunch of overpaid, needy and petulant bunch of prima donnas. If Big Dave tells you to go out and play your heart out for the club, that's what you'd do, and that's not out of fear that's out of respect for the bloke. I would imagine he demands that respect not only for himself but also for the club, that he so clearly loves, just like us.

We've heard the talk from the top about returning or striving to go back to "the Albion" values and what better man to start that off than Darren Moore who ran through brick walls for us as a player. What he guarantees is that we get away from the Tony Pulis, David Kemp, Gerry Francis, Alan Pardew, John Carver types who showed us that they didn't really give a 5hit about us, make us a laughing stock, plummet down the table, get the sack and walk away without a second thought. We had more hope in those final 6 games than we'd had in the 30 odd before them.

With the right people behind and alongside him Big Dave could be just the man to lead a return to what we'd all love to be, who knows, we all want him to be part of the club and it just seems a bit harsh to start raising doubts about how he'll do on the same day he gets the job, although as I said I do share the "not wanting him to fail" reasoning behind some of those doubts. I'd hate some sports reporter to open his interview with "you weren't all of the fans choice for the job" "some of the supporters are a little underwhelmed" or "fans have been voicing their concerns about your appointment"
