'The way the Premier league is going I would imagine you are in with about 12 other teams in simply having the goal of not being relegated with maybe a good cup run or even winning it once in a while'
Think you've hit the nail on the head regarding being in this division.
I personally hate going into a new season safe in the knowledge that we stand zero chance of winning it. What's the point
You know that the likes of Southampton, Swansea etc may burn bright for a while but they won't be anywhere near the top by the end of the season.
In answer to the original question, relegation would be disasterous for the club with no guarantee of coming back up - but we simply can't compete with the 'big boys'.
Don't want to get too political but The Premier League is sadly a mirror of our society - no money, you're nothing.
