It's high time they started bringing in this length of ban for football cheats as well. See how many players keep diving in the area when there's a possibility of a 12 month ban on offer. What's the difference between a cyclist taking drugs to help him get stronger, a cricketer rubbing sandpaper on the ball to make it swing and a footballer diving to win a penalty?
The only difference is that a drug test result and the sandpaper evidence are pretty much absolute, a lot of diving incidents are subjective and opinion based. Of course there are those that are clear cut without the need for replay, so it could certainly be applied to them but a lot of time there is contact.
