Which is, of course, a genuine possibility.  A lot of people on here seem very eager to assume the worst possible motive on Bong's part, based on no evidence that I can see.  If he had a longstanding feud with Rodriguez or a lengthy history of crying wolf on stuff like this then I'd be suspicious, but I don't think he does.  So yeah, he may well just have misheard.

If he HAD misheard, or if his English isn't that brilliant he shouldn't have complained to this level, or posted what he did on social media, OR said what he (apparently) said on French TV.....he should've qualified it with "I think" or something similar

But people who mishear things genuinely don't realise that they've misheard. I've had many an argument with people who swear blind I've said one thing when they've simply (mis)heard another, and they won't back down. And that's in perfectly quiet rooms, let alone in a stadium full of bloody clappers on the go.
